Six Potential Benefits of Coconut Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic practice that involves swishing oil in your mouth for several minutes. My favorite oil to use is organic cold-pressed virgin coconut oil. I typically oil pull in the morning for around 15 minutes, after scraping my tongue, and before brushing my teeth.

Here are six potential benefits of coconut oil pulling:

1.) May promote oral health: Coconut oil pulling can help kill harmful bacteria in the mouth, reducing bad breath, gum inflammation, and plaque buildup.

2.) May whiten teeth: Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which can help remove stains and whiten teeth over time.

3.) May provide a gentle lymph massage: Gently swishing coconut oil through the oral mucosa utilizes a variety of muscles and movements. These motions can provide a gentle lymph massage to the mouth/jaw/ and neck area.

4.) May boost the immune system: The medium-chain fatty acids in coconut oil have antimicrobial properties that can help strengthen the immune system.

5.) May reduce stress: The act of coconut oil pulling itself can be a relaxing and meditative practice, helping to reduce stress and promote relaxation.

6.) May relieve headaches: Coconut oil pulling may help to relieve headache symptoms, including those associated with migraines.
